7 Reasons Why I Like Windows 7
Windows 7, Microsoft’s latest version of Windows operating system has been an instant success upon its release. Just barely more than two months, it quickly got a 10% market share. It is also the fastest selling software in the history of Microsoft.
Well, if you think Windows 7 is nothing more than just another bunch of “buzz”, well, think again. I have here several reasons why I believe that Windows deserves all the success it got!
1. Super fast booting
As you might’ve already heard of this from many forums and tech blogs but Windows 7 has a very fast start up time. Of course it depends on your settings and how many start-up programs you are running. But you can really perceive the significant reduction in start-up time compared to its predecessor Vista.
2. Nice keyboard shortcuts and mouse effects
Windows seven introduces new mouse techniques to enhance user experience. One of these is the semi-automatic “window resize”. You just have to click the window bar and drag it to the top and you’ll have the window in full screen. Drag it to the left or right of your screen you’ll have your window fill the right half or left half of your screen. The latter is nice when you are comparing two files on two windows.
3. Windows 7 don’t take much of your resources.
Read only Memory (RAM), Graphics Memory, and CPU usage were optimized in Windows 7 resulting in an increase in performance efficiency. Before, my friend bought a laptop PC with pre-installed Windows Vista. It has a decent dual core memory, a dedicated graphics card and 2 GB memory. The performance is awful especially when you open multiple windows. He checked the RAM usage and found out that even though he didn’t launch any application, Windows Vista already took 1 GB of his memory.
With Windows 7, you can even install and use it quite okay even at only of 512 MB RAM. Of course, Windows recommends a memory of at least 1GB for a nice experience.
4. Lesser Compatibility Issue
One of the items that topped the list of complaints upon the release of Windows Vista is compatibility issues with existing programs during that time. With Windows 7, Microsoft applied all the hard-earned lessons from Vista. Before releasing Windows 7, it undergoes several BETA versions that can be tested by the actual users. In this way, Microsoft was better prepared especially with compatibility issues.
If you are still experiencing compatibility issues, you can use the XP mode software to run your XP applications without any problem.
5. A nice and Cleaner Task bar
With Windows 7, your task bar will now be much cleaner since it groups similar applications with just one icon.
6. Sidebar of Vista is Now Gone
With Windows 7, you may now place your desktop gadget anywhere on the desktop. Vista only allows gadgets to be placed on the sidebar.
7. Running Smooth like XP but with Vista Capabilities
Probably, the major reason why Windows 7 release has been a success story for Microsoft is because it builds on the strength of XP and learned the from the failures of Vista. Windows XP is excellent in usability and Vista is excellent in appearance and security. If you combine these two characteristics, it will point to Windows 7.
