Apple to Release iPhone 5 Together with iPod Refresh this September
The latest rumor spreading around the web is that Apple will be releasing the iPhone 5 sometime late August or maybe on September together with the refresh to the line of the iPod products. This speculation was confirmed by two media sources, one is the tech blog Boy Genius Report (BGR) and another one is the news website Bloomberg. Both of these websites claimed to have an exclusive tip from credible sources familiar with the matter.
Yes, every year, tech bloggers and enthusiasts were always excited about what Apple will be releasing especially with regards to their top product, the iPhone segment. For instance, last year, two months prior to the release of iPhone 4, major leaks about the product was published in the internet. The most controversial of them was that of tech blog Gizmodo who obtained an actual prototype of iPhone 4.
This year however, there’s still no such major leak yet but there’s already been numerous information that came out as to what the new iPhone will be. Here’s a brief list of them:
Bigger Display
This has been a recurring topic of rumors that didn’t die in the past several months. And why not? After all, iPhone has already been dwarfed by competing phones of the same segment. Samsung Galaxy S2 had a 4.3-in display compared to just 3.5-in of the iPhone 4. There are also images circulating in the web about an edge-to-edge iPhone 5 display design.
A5 for iPhone 5; More Power for the iPhone
As soon as the new A5 processor that powers iPad 2 was announced last March 2, there’s been speculation that Apple will upgrade the current A4 of iPhone 4 to be an A5 for the iPhone 5.
An 8MP Camera
Rumor also claims that Apple will ramp-up the iPhone cameras from the current 5MP of iPhone 4 to 8MP for iPhone 5. Does this mean that HD video recording will be upgraded from 720p to 1080p? It may or may not, but if it does it should be really attractive. Sony has been rumored to provide the camera for the next-generation iPhone.
4G Support for iPhone 5
Since the iPhone 4 is already available via Verizon since February this year, it may be possible that Apple is working to have the iPhone 5 work in Verizon’s 4G LTE network.
iOS 5 for iPhone 5
This one could be the major reason why the release of iPhone 5 was moved from the traditional month of June to September. Apple may have wanted to release iPhone 5 powered by iOS 5. During this year’s WWDC, Apple announces the iOS 5 adding new capabilities such as the “revamped notification system” and iMessage plus over two hundred new features and upgrades. Apple will be releasing the iOS 5 this fall coinciding with the rumored schedule of iPhone 5 release.
Rumors and speculations will remain as rumors and speculations until the final product comes out. For now, we’ll just keep on watching for the next big thing from Apple.
