Google Android Hits 500,000 Daily Activations – Andy Rubin
There are now over 500,000 Android devices activated every day, and it’s growing at 4.4% w/w -Andy Rubin
Google’s Senior Vice President for Mobile Andy Rubin just tweeted (@Arubin) today that Google Android OS has reached another milestone in terms of usage: over 500,000 Android devices being activated everyday. Yes, Android OS proved to be one of the best mobile operating system today and fueled by the power of Google’s research, we can say that the open-source mobile operating system has just began the “Android invasion”.
And although the immense growth of Android usage can be attributed to the expansion of the mobile market, especially that of the smartphone segment, we can also conclude that Android’s dominance is at the expense of other mobile OS, specifically that of the BlackBerry OS and Nokia Symbian. This is evident in the consistent decrease in their market shares.
In the Philippines alone, the most dominant mobile devices were Android-powered. Just go to a typical mobile phone store and you will see clearly. Android OS powers the cheapest smartphones and tablets in the Philippines as well as the most expensive ones.
Apart from being free, the open nature of Android platform makes it an attractive software for both the device manufacturers and software developers.
