Apple to Reveal Next-Gen iPad (iPad 3?) on March 7, 2012

Starting today, you can unofficially call your iPad 2 as “old” and your iPad (first gen) “ancient” because Apple Inc. has already sent out invitations to media (including selected bloggers) for their event next week, March 7, 2012 (March 8 here in the Philippines). From the picture of the invitation, it is quite obvious that Apple will be releasing the next generation of their popular tablet product, the iPad.

“iPad 3″ Rumors

Well, Apple might have been the most rumored tech company in the world. Rumors mounts on every next-generation products that the company is rumored to launch. It started with the iPods, then the iPhones and the latest is the iPad. For the next iPad version dubbed by many as “iPad 3″, here are the most common speculation:

Quad-core A6 processor
iPad 1 has an A4 single core processor, iPad 2 has an A5 dual-core, so what do we naturally expect for iPad 3? Well, you know the answer. This new processor is expected to boost the computing and graphics power of iPad 3.

Better Camera

Images have come out in recent weeks showing an alleged iPad 3 sample placed side-by-side with iPad 2. The emphasis is that the camera has grown larger. Is Apple giving more image capturing power to their tablet like what they did with iPhione 4s?

Higher Display Resolution

Rumors has it that Apple is doubling the resolution of “iPad 3″ display. iPad 2 has a 1024-by-768-pixel resolution at 132 pixels per inch (ppi). iPad 3 will double that to 2,048×1,536 pixel.

Increasing display resolution is not new to Apple. Apple doubled iPhone 3GS resolution of 480-by-320-pixel at 163 ppi to 960-by-640-pixel resolution at 326 ppi in iPhone 4. The technology is called retina display and has become one of the key selling points of iPhone 4.

LTE on iPad 3

Since most other tablets in the market has already an LTE support, the rumor of LTE support on iPad 3 is not dying out. We’ll see next week if it really does.

Siri on iPad 3?

Well, aside from the 8MP camera, iPhone 4S major boost comes from Siri, the intelligent voice assistant that was integrated to the entire iPhone 4S system. Will Apple also integrated this AI technology to their next-gen iPad? it won’t be impossible.

iPad 3 invitation

The invitation from Apple regarding their March 7 event (red arrow ours)

No “home” button for iPad 3?

Lastly, the picture from Apple invitation has spurred some controversy. As you can see the  image above, the home button is apparently missing. Well, with the introduction of the iOS 5, the home view can now be accessed by your 4 or 5-finger pinch (multi-touch). Will Apple totally remove the home button this time?

Well, all these rumors will remain as rumors until March 7 (March 8 in the Philippines) when Apple finally reveals what the next iPad version will really look like.

Globe iPhone 4S Units Arrives in the Philippines First

The clock is ticking and the number of days is just down to three before the official release of iPhone 4S in the Philippines this Friday, December 16, 2011. But days before that, the competition between SMART Communications and Globe Telecom is rising up to a heated level especially in terms of promotion.

iPhone 4 vs. iPhone 4S

Last weekend, SMART gave out apples in selected Supermarkets, Malls and SMART Stores in Manila. Yes, they literally gave people free Apples to promote their latest offer, the iPhone 4S made by Apple Inc.

Globe Telecom, on the other hand, published two blog posts today. The first one cited that the pre-order for the Globe iPhone 4S has already surpassed last years’ record for iPhone 4. The second one states that the iPhone 4S units of Globe arrived first in the country.

How about you? Which network do you plan to get your iPhone 4S?

iPhone 4S is indeed the most successful iPhone ever. It first broke US sales record when Apple reported that its pre-order reaches more 1 Million over the first 24 hours after its announcement last October 4 dethroning iPhone 4 pre-order quantity of 600,000 units.

Now, Globe Telecom announced in their official blog that iPhone 4S pre-orders

have already surpassed the pre-order of iPhone 4 last year. Although Globe didn’t mention the figures, it can be assumed that the number will continue to increase as the official release of the celebrated phone nears.

Globe and SMART Communication is bound to release the Sir-powered iPhone this Friday (December 16, 2011). This is the first time that SMART will be offering the Apple darling product and this development is expected to expand the usage of iPhones among Philippine based users.

iPhone 4S features a faster A5 dual core processor, a 8GB Camera, and an intelligent assistant Siri. It was released in the United States last October 14, 2011.

iPhone 4S Philippines Goes to SMART?

Apple’s newly released iPhone 4S is bound to be offered by SMART Communication! The news was reported by Philippine Daily Inquirer (http://technology.inquirer.net) late today. This was a big surprise because Globe Telecom was the only local carrier that was able to sell the popular smartphone in the country.

According to the report, Manuel V. Pangilinan, chairman of SMART-PLDT confirmed that they are in talk with Apple with regards to both the iPhone 4 and the new iPhone 4S.

Siri Useless in the Philippines?

One of the key feature of iPhone 4S is the intelligent assistant named Siri. This artificial intelligence answers almost any type of question with the goal of helping the user find and get what he wants. Unfortunately, the web-based databases that is the source of Siri’s information is not working the Philippines. For instance, if you want to find restaurants in the vicinity, Siri may return no results because the website Yelp that powers Siri’s ability to locate nearby restaurants only works in US.

But if you want the iPhone 4S‘ other features like the new 8MP Camera and the faster A5 chip, then you may be happy buying it. Otherwise, you may just buy the original iPhone 4 because it looks exactly the same except for the features I just mentioned.

Apple also mentioned in the press release that iPhone 4S will be available to more than 70 countries before the end of the year although it is not certain if it will be released gradually or at the same day for the 70 of them. Pricing and Availablity

The iPhone 4S will be available in the US on October 14 but pre-order will start Friday, October 7, 2011.

I expect that the iPhone 4S will only be available via Globe Telecoms, the official carrier of iPhones in the Philippines. As for the price, the iPhone 4S will be much similar to the price of its predecessor, the iPhone 4.

The iPhone 4S announcement only mentioned the US release but just as the previous iPhone versions, we can assume that iPhone 4S will be released a few months later. For thousand of Filipino Apple fans, the wait may take a little longer as usual.

Is it an iPhone 5 or iPhone 4S Event?

iPhone 4 showing the home screen.

The iPhone 4. Image via Wikipedia

It will be only a few hours from now before Apple finally announces a new version of its most popular even phenomenal product so fare, the iPhone. But while still waiting for  Curpertino-based computer and mobile device manufacturer’s final announcement, many people are still hanging on the different rumors that came out lately. One of the sounding rumor is about whether Apple will introduce an iPhone 5 or an iPhone 4S.

iPhone 5

iPhone 5 is expected to be a radically redesigned successor of the highly successful iPhone 4. It’s been 16 months already from the time Steve Jobs, former Apple CEO announces the iPhone 4. With that amount of time that has passed by, many are speculating that Apple may have used that time to make dramatic changes to iPhone.

Among the most notable rumors about iPhone 5 is that it will have an A5 chip, a bigger screen, thinner design, and an 8-MP camera for HD recording.

iPhone 4S

The rumor of an iPhone 4S saw an extreme popularity earlier this year, prior to the Apple’s WWDC. According to reports, iPhone 4S will look similar to the current iPhone 4 with just some incremental improvements.

The idea of an iPhone 4 to iPhone 4S iteration is not something new to Apple. In 2009, Apple announces the iPhone 3GS, an incremental improvement over the iPhone 3G which was release a year before, in 2008.

iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S

Well, to complete the possible scenario, many analysts and tech blogs have entertained the idea that Apple may be launching two versions of iPhones today, an iPhone 5 and an iPhone 4S. And why not? Apple has been criticized for selling products only at the high-end segment of the market, a thing that makes Android phones more popular in terms of market share because Android is found at all segment of the market. The rumors claim that iPhone 5 will be the new high-end phone while iPhone 4S is the less expensive version of it.

Whatever it is, it will be just a few hours from now when it would be finally be revealed. So stay put and watch things unfold.
