Microsoft Ditches Hotmail, Introduces Outlook.com
Microsoft has re-branded their free web-mail service. From Hotmail, it will now be called Outlook.com.
Outlook.com have revamped Microsoft’s email interface making it clutter-free with touches echoing Metro style which is common to new Microsoft products such as Windows Phone 7 and Windows. Outlook.com have also integrated Skype video calls into their email service.
People – More Social
In replacement to Contacts, Microsoft added the People app (introduced in WP7). With that Microsoft was able to make Outlook.com more social. Using this feature, you can import your contacts from other social networks like Facebook, Twitter and Google.
Upgrade from Hotmail.com to Outlook.com email address
If you have existing Hotmail account, you have the option to either retain your old @hotmail.com address or you can switch to a new @outlook.com email address. Don’t worry about your contacts and old emails because even if you upgraded to Outlook.com, you will still have your original mails and the new messages to your old @hotmail.com address will now be redirected to your @outlook.com account. But whether you choose to upgrade or not, the user interface will still be updated.
Other features such as Calendar and Skydrive will still be there.
