Samsung Galaxy Note 2 – Specs and Availability in the Philippines
The successor of the surprisingly popular “phablet” Galaxy Note was officially announced by Samsung at the Mobile Unpacked event in Berlin. This new device, Galaxy Note II, has a larger screen of 5.5 inches Super AMOLED display. Inside the device beats a 1.6 Ghz quad-core processor and a 2GB of RAM.
According to Samsung, Galaxy Note II will be shipped with Android 4.1 (aka Jelly Bean) installed. It will also support 4G mobile broadband technologies, that is LTE and HSPA+. It sports a 8 MP rear camera and a 1.9 MP front camera. The new S pen will also have new tricks.
Pricing and Availability in the Philippines
Samsung Mobile said that GalaxyNote II will be released in major European, Asian and Middle East markets by October. That being said, we can expect the device to hit the Philippines soon. Interestingly, Samsung never mentioned about US availability. This is likely due to their recent loss from the suit filed by Apple against them.
Pricing is not mentioned but I would guess that the device would be priced around 38000 Pesos.

Samsung Galaxy S3 Release – Features, Availability, and Price in the Philippines
A few days ago, Samsung Mobile has released the latest edition of their Galaxy S model. The third generation is named Galaxy SIII following the success of the first generation Galaxy S and Galaxy SII. And as expected, Samsung beefed-up Galaxy SIII with new and amazing features. Let’s run down some of the new features in this model:
Larger Display, Minimal Design
If you think Samsung Galaxy S2 is a bulk in the hand, then Galaxy S3 might be bulkier for you. But if you think “bigger is better” in mobile display, then this phone is just for you. Galaxy S3 features a 4.8 inches Super AMOLED display half an inch bigger than its predecessor, the S2.
The form factor of Galaxy S3 is thin and smooth. Galaxy S3 sports generous curve on the sides making it easier to hold and grab. The new S3 will also come in two colors, Pebble Blue and Marble White.
Although it is bigger in size, the new Galaxy S3 is lighter compared to other smartphones of the same range. Its 133 grams weight is 7 grams lighter compared to iPhone 4S.
Smart Stay, Direct Call, Smart Alert, Social Tag, and S Voice
Galaxy S3 is probably the smartest smartphone released in the market to date. Although I haven’t experinced the device myself, I would say that it can be because of the new features such as:
Smart Stay will detect whether you are looking at your phone or not. When you’re not, it will dim the device and will eventually put to sleep to conserve battery life.
Direct Call allows you to call directly your friends number just by lifting your phone to your ears. For example, if you read an SMS from your friend and needs to call him/her, you don’t need to go to the call app. Just lift your phone to your ears and it will automatically dial your friend’s number.
Smart Alert will detect whether you are away to your phone and will vibrate for any missed SMS or call.
Social Tag automatically recognizes your friennd’s faces in pictures and at a glance, it will display find their SNS status.
S Voice is like Siri of Galaxy S3. You can talk to you phone and it will intelligently answer.
Sharing Ability Beefed Up
Samsung made sharing effortless and seamless with the new Galaxy S3. It features S Beam where you can share your files and photos to a nearby phone with S beam ability just by tapping the screen. The AllShare Cast allows you to see your display in a larger screen of an HDTV. Buddy Photo Share allows you to share photos with your friend effortlessly. The phone will recognize your friend’s face and will suggest whether to email the photo to him or her. And lastly, the AllShare Play allows you to share your files to other devices anytime, anywhere.
Specs that wows!
Inside this smart device beats a Quad-core 1.4 GHz Cortex-A9 processor and a 1 GB RAM. It also have an accelerometer, gyro, RGB sensor, proximity, compass, barometer installed inside it.
Other notable feature is the camera. It is an 8MP auto-focus camera capable of 1080p HD videos at 30fps. The phone also allows you to take 8 consecutive shots and recommend the best shot out of the 8.
Taste the Ice Cream sandwich at it’s best
This is probably the phone where you can experience Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) at it’s best.
Availability and Pricing in the Philippines
The price of the phone has not yet been disclosed as well as it’s availability here in the Philippines. But just like the previous editions, it would only take a couple of months before it reaches here.
The question now is: are you going to upgrade or not?

Samsung Unveils Galaxy Y Duos Series – Dual SIM Android Smartphones
I’ve always wanted to buy a smartphone but what keeps me from doing so is the fact that I cannot find an attractive dual-SIM smartphone. Here in the Philippines, dual-SIM phones is really advisable. That’s why when I bought my Nokia X1, I always tell myself that its a good move. I have both SMART and Sun Cellular SIMs. Smart gives me unparalleled signal availability while Sun Cellular gave me unparalleled savings.
Now, I think I have to rethink again with regards to buying a smartphone. Yesterday, Samsung unveils their first dual-SIM smartphone line. They released the Galaxy Y Duos and the Galaxy Y Pro Duos.
The Galaxy Y Duos looks almost the same as the Galaxy Y they have been selling here in the Philippines for quite a few months already. It is an Android powered phone with version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) pre-installed. At the heart of the device beats a 832MHz processor, a speed just enough to provide you with a responsive 3.14” full touch display. The device is encased in a 11.98 mm polished metallic casing. The Galaxy Y Duos is apparently targeted to typical users in emerging markets like the Philippines.
On the other hand, Galaxy Y Pro Duos is much like the same as the Galaxy Y Duos aside from the full QWERTY keyboard with a 2.6” display and additional productivity tools. This model is targeted to business and professional users.
From the press release of Samsung, it seems that only Galaxy Y Duos will officially reach the Philippines. Pricing and availability is yet to be announced.
