Promo: Price of Sun Broadband Prepaid Kit Reduced to 795 Pesos
Sun Cellular has reduced the price of their Sun broadband prepaid kit from 995 pesos down to 795 Pesos. That translates to 20% discount, making it the cheapest plug-it device among the three major mobile internet provider in the country (the other two are Globe Tattoo and Smart Bro).
The prepaid kit consists of the USB plug-it device and a Sun Broadband Prepaid SIM card pre-loaded with 1 hour of internet load. The kit can deliver up to 7.2 Mb/s internet speed.
Since it was a prepaid kit, you will have to load it before use. Regular rate is 10 pesos for 30 minutes. You can also register for an unlimited internet for a period of time. Please read the article below to know how.
[Read: How to Register Sun Unlimited Internet?]
The prepaid kit can be purchased in the nearest Sun Shops and authorized retailers.
A good reminder though is to check first if there is a Sun Cellular 3G signal in places where you intend to use your device. To ask, go to the nearest Sun Shop.
Sun Broadband Postpaid Plan
If prepaid is not for you and you think you regularly need an unlimited internet for the month, you can try the postpaid version. The same package is available, except that you will be under an up to 24-month lock-up contract to subsidized for the device. The price though of their postpaid plan can be as low as 799 pesos only.

How to Register Sun Unlimited Internet?
I already wrote about how to register to the unlimited internet in SMART (Unlisurf) and Globe (Supersurf) networks. Now, I’m going to show how to register Sun Unlimited Internet Broadband.
First, you have to insert your prepaid SUN Broadband SIM card in a mobile device that can access its SMS ability. It could be a simple cell phone, smartphone, pocket wifi, dongle, or Broadband Plug-it device. The last three devices should be connected to a computer to reach the SMS Menu.
Once inserted, wait until the signal stabilizes. Then send the following codes to 247.
i50 – 1 day sun unlimited internet
i50 ON - 1 day sun unlimited internet – recurring every 7 days
i100 – 3 days sun unlimited internet
i250 – 7 days sun unlimited internet
The i50 costs 51 pesos, the i100 registration costs 101 Pesos, and so on and so fort. The extra 1 peso is for registration charge.
Sun Unlimited Internet Speed vs SMART vs Globe
I don’t have data from a systematic test that will give us conclusive answer on who among the three telcos provides the fastest speed and most reliable internet connection. But based on experience and feedback from other users, I concluded the following:
1. If you are located in a place where there is good Sun 3G signal, then Sun Broadband is the best choice for you. It offers the cheapest and the most stable connection among the three. The reason behind is that Sun Cellular has the newest mobile telecommunication equipment among the three networks.
2. If you are mobile and shifts place often, the best choice probably is SMART. SMART Bro has the widest coverage among the three options.
3. If the only 3G Signal available in your place is Globe, then choose Globe. Based on my experience, Globe has the worst service among the three.
Cellular Signal is Not Always 3G
There is a common misconception among users about cellular signal. Most think that if there is a call and text signal in a place, then you can have internet connection. But that’s not always true. Cellular network technology are classified into several types or categories. For example, Call and Text signals are just GSM networks that are designed to handle voice calls and SMS only. For internet connection, you should have at least an EDGE or the more common 3G signal. 3G networks provides the required bandwidth to transfer internet data (video, text, images, audio, etc). To make sure that your place has a coverage for mobile internet connectivity, visit the nearest sales office of your chosen provider.

Can’t Call or Text? Contact Sun Cellular’s Customer Service
Around 10PM this evening, I noticed that I was not able to send messages or make calls to my contacts. I’m using a prepaid Sun Cellular SIM Card inserted in a basic X1 Nokia phone. I initially thought that it was the phone that was causing the problem so I immediately restarted my phone. But after several tries, even reinserting the SIM, the problem won’t go away. What makes it confusing is that my friend who was just beside me was able to call and text using her unit. Well, what can I do? Contact the Sun Cellular customer service representatives via the following channels.
Sun Cellular Hotline 200
Using a SUN postpaid or prepaid SIM Card, you can call SUN’s hotline by dialing 200. I think it requires an airtime balance of 1 peso. Through this channel, you can receive verbal technical assistance from the company’s reps.
Twitter Account @suncelltweets
Well, if your problem is that you cannot call, it would be useless to dial 200. If you have an active internet connection, just log-in with your twitter account and tweet your concern begging with @suncelltweets. SUN’s twitter account usually responds quickly. But in cases of massive outage, you may have to wait for a few minutes.
It would be helpful also if you will check the tweets of @suncelltweets to know if your situtaion is unique or if it is a widespread issue with their network. In my case this evening, it appears that my problem is not an isolated case.
As of 11:10 PM today, the call and text service has been restored to my account.

Samsung Unveils Galaxy Y Duos Series – Dual SIM Android Smartphones
I’ve always wanted to buy a smartphone but what keeps me from doing so is the fact that I cannot find an attractive dual-SIM smartphone. Here in the Philippines, dual-SIM phones is really advisable. That’s why when I bought my Nokia X1, I always tell myself that its a good move. I have both SMART and Sun Cellular SIMs. Smart gives me unparalleled signal availability while Sun Cellular gave me unparalleled savings.
Now, I think I have to rethink again with regards to buying a smartphone. Yesterday, Samsung unveils their first dual-SIM smartphone line. They released the Galaxy Y Duos and the Galaxy Y Pro Duos.
The Galaxy Y Duos looks almost the same as the Galaxy Y they have been selling here in the Philippines for quite a few months already. It is an Android powered phone with version 2.3.5 (Gingerbread) pre-installed. At the heart of the device beats a 832MHz processor, a speed just enough to provide you with a responsive 3.14” full touch display. The device is encased in a 11.98 mm polished metallic casing. The Galaxy Y Duos is apparently targeted to typical users in emerging markets like the Philippines.
On the other hand, Galaxy Y Pro Duos is much like the same as the Galaxy Y Duos aside from the full QWERTY keyboard with a 2.6” display and additional productivity tools. This model is targeted to business and professional users.
From the press release of Samsung, it seems that only Galaxy Y Duos will officially reach the Philippines. Pricing and availability is yet to be announced.

How to Apply for Internet Connection in the Philippines?
The internet is rapidly taking bigger and bigger portion of Filipino lifestyle. A few years ago, internet is considered to be a leisure and only few can afford the service. But as the Philippines gets deeper and deeper into information age, the need for an internet connection is getting critical.
For those who wants to know how to apply for an internet connection, here are the typical steps to follow. This is generic with all the local Telcos may also vary a little depending on circumstances.
1. Prepare the Requirements
Globe, SMART, PLDT, Sun Cellular and others will usually require you to bring the following items to the nearest sales office:
- Valid ID
- Proof of Billing Address (Electric Bill, Phone Bills, credit card statement under YOUR NAME)
2. Fill-up the application form
This will be provided by the employee in the sales office.
3. Schedule them for the installation
Depending on the type of service you want to subscribe with, you may be asked to schedule a time where they can visit your location to install the devices. This is usually the case when you’re applying for fixed internet connections such as DSL, WiMAX, Canopy etc.
- For mobile services such as plug-its, 3G SIM, etc, you may not need to do this step. They will give you the device immediately after paying it.
4. Pay whatever they require you to pay.
This can be the price of the device or your first month bill.
Note: Again this procedure may vary a little depending on the internet service provider company.
